Jessica + JP | 16mm Film Love Story {Oklahoma Wedding Videographer}

We’re so excited we finally get to share Jessica and JP’s love story! It debuted at their reception last night. I love the premise behind it. Jess & JP wanted to write their own vows, but they were afraid they’d be too emotional to make it through them during their ceremony. So they wanted to use a love story to convey what they wanted to say to one another. We took a literal approach and had them each write and record their vows separately, and then the first time they saw the video or heard each other’s vows was when the film played at their reception. I’m so happy they trusted us enough to let us do it this way, because it was so fun seeing their reactions.

P.S. Thanks to Paper8 for helping out with some of the details for this shoot, and Kevin Paul Photography who had some old 16mm film lying around and gave it to us when he learned we’d bought a Scoopic. Also, thanks to Jessica and JP for being such troopers. One of our locations was along the Arkansas River. Upon finishing up out there, we turned around to see the water had risen and the path we’d taken was gone! So we all got a little wet, but ended up with a great story. :-)

The Moments | Wedding film watch party {Oklahoma wedding videographer}

If you follow our blog, you know we recently started this thing called “The Moments” where every now and then we share simple little tidbits like a “first look” or a bride reading the letter her groom wrote to her. So I couldn’t help myself when Jennifer and Bryan told us they wanted to have a small watch party when we delivered their full wedding film. What a great idea!!! I will say I got in a bit of trouble when I arrived with camera gear in hand. I believe the quote was “do you ever stop working?” But I promised I’d keep it simple and would still have fun. And boy did we all have a blast. There were definitely plenty of tears, but the laughter stole the show. And can I say how much I love that they had snacks and drinks and even put up decorations?!? This, folks, is why you get a wedding film.

The Moments | Groom’s Letter to his Bride {Oklahoma Wedding Videographer}

Normally we share recaps of the wedding day, whether in a short “movie trailer” teaser, or a longer highlight film. But sometimes it’s nice just to see one special moment, all by itself. Because it’s those moments that make up the day, but all too often go by so quickly. It’s those moments that touch our hearts with their simplicity and emotion, and we need to hang on to them. So here is a moment I came across while working on Kaitlyn and Luis’ wedding film, and I just had to share. Kaitlyn is darling and she got emotional a number of times throughout the day; during their ceremony at St. Francis Catholic Church, when her dad saw her in her gown for the first time, and especially during one moment at the Colcord Hotel while the girls were getting ready. We love it when brides and grooms exchange gifts or letters, and this is no exception. If Kaitlyn’s reading of Luis’ letter to her doesn’t get you at least a little choked up, then we need to talk. ;-)

Melissa + Edward | OKC Wedding Film {Oklahoma Wedding Videographer}

Melissa and Edy had a timeless, classic wedding. Their ceremony at Christ The King was beautiful, and it fit perfectly with their elegant reception at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. But the most important thing to them both was family. Relatives came from all over the world, and you could tell it meant a lot to have them all there. And boy did they ever celebrate! I think they would have danced to the Groove Merchants all night long if they could have.

Alana + Keeton | OKC Wedding Film {Oklahoma Wedding Videographer}

Alana and Keeton had a very touching, very emotional wedding ceremony. As if their vows to one another weren’t enough, Keeton’s dad performed the ceremony. I’m quite certain everyone shed a tear or two, but that doesn’t mean their day wasn’t filled with laughter too. Both their ceremony and reception were at the Oklahoma History Center (love this venue!) which was all dolled up with beautiful Christmas decor. All that, plus a great team of some of Oklahoma’s best wedding pros, made for a perfect day.

Mindy + Steven | Tulsa Wedding Film {Oklahoma Wedding Videographer}

So, you know how Victoria’s Secret has a line called “Pink”? Well they got nothin’ on Mindy and Steven’s wedding. Gorgeous flowers, lights everywhere, a crazy cool candy bar including a cotton candy machine… and it was all pink, pink, pink! Everything about this day was amazing and fun. But strip away the stunning decor and rockin’ band, and you’re left with my favorite thing about the wedding; two people absolutely, positively, 100% head-over-heels in love.

Natalie + Dereck | OKC Wedding Film {Oklahoma Wedding Videographer}

Natalie and Dereck had three wedding ceremonies. Yes, you read that correctly. On Friday they had a ceremony at their temple, followed by a Vietnamese tea ceremony at home. Saturday they went to the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City for a western ceremony and reception. It was amazing to watch their celebrations move from intimate family moments rich with tradition, to a stunning (albeit hot) outdoor ceremony, to an absolutely awesome and huge party. I mean, who wouldn’t want to dance the night away with 700 of their closest friends??? But in the midst of all of these events, when Natalie and Dereck looked at– and laughed with– each other, it really seemed like everything else faded away and they were the only two people in the world. …them, and their dog Bosco. :-)

Chelsie + Trent | Tulsa Wedding Film {Oklahoma Wedding Videographer}

Chelsie is stinkin’ adorable. The way this girl giggled and laughed all day, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone in a bad mood within a ten-mile radius of her. And while Trent seemed pretty even keel, his softer side showed through when family members stood up to toast to the couple. It was supposed to rain non-stop on their wedding day, but the clouds held back all afternoon… which was perfect since their ceremony was outside in the gardens of the Gilcrease Museum. (can you say gorgeous?) One of the great things about having a wedding at Gilcrease is that the guests could browse through the exhibits during the cocktail hour and reception. It stormed like crazy after the sun set, but were it not for the flashes of lightning I don’t think anyone would have noticed thanks to the party that no one wanted to end.

The Moments | Surprise Marriage Proposal at OKC Wedding

We had a blast shooting Kodie & Dylan’s wedding Saturday at the OKC Farmer’s Market, and we’ll have more from their wedding day on the blog soon. But for now there’s one little tidbit I just had to share. At the end of the toasts, Kodie’s brother Bryan was going to act like he too had a speech to give, when he really was going to propose to his girlfriend Amber. It was such a sweet and emotional moment, and you could hear the crowd gasp as he got down on one knee. Congratulations to both Kodie & Dylan, and Bryan & Amber!

Cortney + Alex | Tulsa Wedding Film {Oklahoma Wedding Videographer}

I could easily spend this entire post telling you how fabulous Cortney and Alex’s New Year’s Eve wedding was. But instead I’m going to talk about the song in their highlight. Yup, you heard me right. You see, I usually pick a song more for it’s pacing and “feel” than its lyrics. But as I listened to “All We Are” by OneRepublic, some of the words seemed so perfect for “Cort & Al”. “We won’t say our goodbyes… We won’t break, we won’t die. It’s just a moment of change. All we are, all we are, is everything that’s right…” Some say it’s about long distance relationships, others say it’s about breaking up and getting back together. Well I have another take on it. One month before their wedding Alex was in a serious car crash and nearly died. It’s a miracle not only that he was able to make it to the wedding, but also that he’s even alive today. But on their wedding day, they didn’t want to talk about it. I’m going to be very transparent here. As a storyteller, that was hard for me. I thought a story that emotional and amazing would be perfect for their wedding film. But when I sat down to start editing and listened to toast after toast from their rehearsal dinner about what strong people and amazing friends they are– and then heard this song– I realized “that’s not them.” These two are all about celebrating life and living it to its fullest. They don’t want to dwell on the bad times, and definitely want to embrace the great times. And when presented with what I’m guessing is the absolute worst experience of their lives, they wouldn’t say their goodbyes… wouldn’t break, wouldn’t die.
